Meet the Team Behind Gambit Recovery’s Structured Sober Living Program
Gambit Recovery’s Founders
At Gambit Recovery, leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about lived experience, real accountability, and a commitment to doing things differently. Our founders, Tom Fay and Nathan Mitchell, built this program from the ground up, drawing from their own recovery journeys and a shared vision: to offer structured, purpose-driven sober living that actually works.
With a nationwide network of recovery homes, Tom and Nathan remain hands-on, ensuring every house reflects the core values of integrity, community, and progress. Their leadership isn't distant, it’s active, involved, and grounded in real recovery.

Founder
Tom Fay didn’t just open Gambit Recovery, he built it from the inside out. With over 14 years immersed in the sober living and behavioral health field, Tom has become a trusted architect of ethical recovery housing. His focus isn’t trends—it’s structure, standards, and saving lives.
After spending years caught in the chaos of addiction and surviving a life-altering suicide attempt, Tom got sober in 2010. That moment wasn’t a reset, it was ignition. Since then, he’s made it his life’s work to help others find something better than survival: direction, dignity, and purpose.
Today, Tom is a national voice for integrity in sober living. He’s helped launch and restructure housing programs for numerous treatment centers, and he’s played a direct role in shaping recovery housing policy that puts people over profit. He serves as Vice President of The Council on Recovery Housing (CoRH), Chair of the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities in Chandler, AZ, and is a former board member of the Arizona Recovery Housing Association (AZRHA). His work with city councils and state organizations continues to influence how sober living is regulated and respected across the country.
But policy is just part of it. Tom stays close to the work. He writes every post on the Gambit Recovery blog offering raw, real-world insight on addiction, growth, community, and the grind of staying sober. His voice reflects the same approach that defines Gambit Recovery itself—direct, accountable, and human.
